India's most prominent religion and one of the most ancient one, Hinduism has huge influence across the country. The sites of pilgrimage for Hindus are in accordance with the rules of Karma. In Hinduism it is said to have three main Gods : Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh. These gods are the manifestation of the three stages life as birth, life and death.

With a huge number of ancient temples and sites spread across the country, it becomes very difficult to cover all of them at one go. However a good start could be, Char Dham Yatra (the four holy sites tour)

Char Dham (The four holy sites)

The four holy sites namely  Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri are ancient Himalayan towns with utmost religious importance.

Situated at the bank of Alaknanda River , Badrinath is known to be a shrine of Lord Badri. According to the puranas the place has been worshiped since thousand years. There are inscriptions of it in the Vedas.

The best time to visit is between June to September as the weather conditions are apt.

The Kedarnath Temple was built in Sat Yuga (the ancient time of truth) by the righteous king Kedar. He had a daughter named Vrinda who was a partial incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi.

The temple opens in the first week of May and closes by the first week of November.

Places like Udak Kund, Agastyamuni, Ukhimath etc are to be visited.

On the banks of the river Bhagirathi, the town Gangotri is where the Ganges have their origin. According to the Hindu mythology Goddess Ganga took the form of a river to absorb the sins of King Bhagiratha's predecessors.

The other temples and places of importance in Gangotri are Submerged Shivalingam.

Surrounded by dense forests is Bhavishya Badri Temple where it is said that the lord Badrinath will be worshipped in the future.

The temple of Yamunotri is a shrine of goddess Yamuna. The temple is situated in the western region of Garhwal Himalaya which was built in the late 19th century by Maharani Guleria of Jaipur.

Despite of being destroyed by snow and floods it was rebuilt and is the last in the circuit of the Chardham.

Apart from the chardham you may also pay a visit to temples in South India, Tirupati, Vaishno Devi, Haridwar etc.
